Overview

A fire door is only effective when every component — frame, leaf, intumescent seals, hinges, closer, latch, vision panel and signage — is in correct condition. Our FDIS-trained inspectors assess every door to BS 8214 and the Fire Doors Inspection Scheme criteria, photographing each defect and providing a written certificate, defect register and quoted remedial schedule. Common findings include damaged or painted-over intumescent seals, oversized gaps around the leaf (the 3–4 mm rule on top and sides, 8–10 mm threshold), missing or non-CE marked hinges, broken self-closers, and unauthorised drilling that compromises the leaf fire integrity. We carry out remedial work on the day where possible — replacing seals, adjusting closers, fitting compliant intumescent hinge pads — and quote larger works such as full door replacements, frame repairs and signage upgrades. All replacements use third-party certified door sets (BWF-CERTIFIRE, Certifire, BM TRADA). We inspect residential blocks, HMOs, schools, hospitals, hotels and commercial premises across Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and Durham.
