Overview

Every non-domestic building in the UK with occupants present after dark, with no natural lighting, or with an escape route longer than a few metres, requires emergency lighting that meets BS 5266-1. Our Newcastle engineers carry out a full risk-based design — locating luminaires at every change of direction, every staircase, every final exit, every fire alarm call point and every piece of fire equipment, plus open-area anti-panic lighting where required. We install both self-contained luminaires (each with its own integral battery, ideal for small to mid-size sites) and central battery systems (CBS — efficient for large buildings where centralised maintenance is preferred). All systems use LED luminaires with a minimum 3-hour duration and are commissioned with a full discharge test before handover. On completion we issue the BS 5266-1 model installation certificate, populate the site log book, and label every luminaire with its test schedule. We then offer ongoing servicing: monthly function tests and the annual full-duration discharge test required by the standard. Common installations include offices, retail units, restaurants, schools, HMOs, factories and warehouses across Newcastle, Gateshead and Durham.
